Fairfax Station and septic systems (for sale, houses, yard)

I am looking at some houses for sale in Fairfax Station area, but had to give up because it seemed that every house with Fairfax Station address used septic systems. Why so? Areas around it used public sewage. I give up because I don't want want to a maintain septic tank in addition to the yuck factor.

Not sure what yuck factor you are referring to. A well maintained septic is fine, have it pumped every so often depending in family size, add the bacteria they recommend (name escapes me) and you will have not problems.

Many more "rural" areas rely on septic - having public sewage put in to reach properties is expensive and is very disruptive to your yard, roads, sidewalks etc. And then on top of that you have to pay for you sewage after that!

There are some parts of Fairfax Station with public sewer (e.g., Crosspointe, South Run).

We have our septic cleaned out every other year. @$200
We have had no issues. Our area of Ffx Sta is on public water and septic. A well would have been a deal breaker for me.

I read that the water in the septic tank would be absorbed to the soil below and above it. I came to a house with septic tank and the grass in the field where the tank water went to looked much more lush than surrounding grass. I don't want to walk on my waste.
