Ok...we continue to look at a few more places....
A) I work in DC (near National Museum) and take Metro/VRE. My transit is paid for
B) Wife will be attending Marymount University and will have to be home to pick up son at 3.30pm

1) Lakeside Apartments 6221 Summer Pond Road, Centreville, VA 20121
- Driving to Vienna Metro, then take Orange line in to DC or to Ballston (her), approximately 12 miles using I-66 or Lee Hwy
- Cost : gas, metro cost x 1 and parking x2

2) Amberleigh at 8201 Anderson Dr, Fairfax 22031
- Ride bike or Drive to Dunn Loring Metro and take orange line in for both of us, Gallow Rd
- Metro cost x 1 and parking x 1
-gas is insignificant

3) Reserve @ Fairfax Corner 11727 Fairfax Woods Way, Fairfax, VA 22030
- driving to Vienna Metro, then take Orange line. approximately 7 miles - mostly I-66
- Cost : gas, metro cost x 1, parking x2

Questions:
I have no experience dealing with morning rush and afternoon rush. I am not too worry about morning since I will left the house around 5.00-530am and she will leave around 9.00-930am. But I will be coming home around 3pm-4pm and she will be coming home around 200-230pm (school)

What is the worst and why?

I would choose the closest to metro option. Which sounds like 2 since you think you could bike to metro from there. Centerville would be a bad commute trying to get to a metro, 66 should be avoided. VRE is not a good option as you can't get to Marymount easily and they run commuter hours so picking up a child at 3:30 might be hard to do using VRE.

Since you are leaving so early, you will be able to get parking at a metro, but I doubt there will be metro parking available at 9 in the morning. So you need to be familiar when parking fills up at the metro you plan on using.

Thanks for the answer. So the question is, if she choose to drive instead of taking metro which is 7 miles to 16 miles thru I66...will it be a bad option? How bad is I66?

Your best commute is from Anderson Rd, the metro is a few blocks down Gallows Rd. inside the beltway, 66 is HOV 2 (carpool 2 people minimum in the car) but your early schedule and your wife's late schedule may miss the car pool restrictions.

I don't think Centerville has easy commutes. There are no uncontested roads near Centerville. A lot of folks from Prince William drive in 28. Folks coming from Gainsville and Manassas fill 66. There are few roads coming into Fairfax from Prince William and 28, 29 and 66 all go near Centerville.

Going from FFX woods would be easier than Centerville but worse than Anderson Rd. it is a straight shot to the Vienna metro. Again I would try to learn when parking fills up. I have also seen construction on Nutley St right by the metro entrance so I suggest checking out whether there is any construction going on that affects access to the Vienna metro station.

She will have to watch the HOV restrictions on 66 inside the beltway (495) in the morning. East bound is restricted to 2 or more up until, I think 9:30 so if she is going earlier she would need to use Rt. 50, I'm guessing. Those who live and drive there will know for sure.

Inside and and outside the beltway have different hours. Here is a link. Given the hours you posted for your wife, driving is the only thing that will work given that parking would definitely be full that late.

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Systems

A lot of people play this waiting game so where I think traffic is lighter inside the beltway than it is earlier, outside the beltway on 66 is still very heavy.

I've never walked down Gallows let alone biked on it, but have you looked at the stretch of road and felt biking would be easy?

Living at the Reserve you can avoid 66 by taking Randon Hills, jump on 50 briefly and take Jermantown and get to the Vienna metro that way

The Anderson Dr. location seems pretty good. There is a Fairfax Connector bus route that goes up Gallows to Dunn Loring metro. Driving to Marymount wouldn't be a problem. Lee Hwy. is pretty slow in the morning, but by 9am it might not be as bad. 30-35 min?

Thanks all. I have narrow down the list to 2 locations, the Anderson Dr and the Fairfax corner location. The wife seems to lean towards the Fairfax corner location due to whatever reason. I am trying to talk her out of it....

1) So, typical drive from FFX corner to Vienna metro in the AM (5am or so) will be like under 10 min give or take and parking will not be a problem. How about evening commute back between 3.30pm to 5pm?
2) So typical traffic after 9am will be just regular traffic not traffic jam to Marymount. Google map with current traffic at 7am is around 30-35min to there..is that even accurate?
3) Biking at Gallow rd dangerous? It has sidewalk when I was there..
4) I guess parking for her at Metro after 9am will be out of question then.

Also, do you guys have any suggestion where I should also look at for rental?
