Hi

I will be relocating to Northen VA area and working near King St Metro station. It's a contract job so I have to keep myself flexible and commutable for near future opportunities as well.

Can someone please guide me:

1) Best elementory school in NOVA, MD area ?
2) Which apartements I should look for to get my son to best elementry public school(8-10 rating)?
3) I can commute with public transportation or by car but max 1 to 1.5 hour with traffic considered.
4) I can afford 1800-2000 for 2 Bed.

Can someone please help me with recommednations for sutiable apartments which may meet my criteria?
Appreciate your help!
Andy

I would start my search in the Kingstowne area (Fairfax County) and West Springfield (Fairfax County). South of Old Town Alexandria (Fairfax County) off the GW parkway (not the route 1 nabes) would also work but I don't think there are any apartments in those neighborhoods-all single family homes.

Fairfax has some of the best schools in the nation. Almost anywhere in the county the schools are excellent. There are lots of areas served by metro and even more areas served by busses that will take you to a metro. King Street is an easy place to get to because of the metro. Try looking in Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax first. Together they have a population of about 2million people, so you should be able to find something you like. If you stay in Virginia, you will keep your taxes simpler than working across states and filing income tax in both.

I'll agree that the OP doesn't want to commute from MD, but your statement about taxes is incorrect - only return required would be the residential state due to tax reciprocity.

I second Kingstowne area That would allow you to either metro or drive. It is FFX schools, even though it has an Alexandria address.

If you also need to consider before and after care (not sure if you are married) there are options in Kingstowne, Island Creek area that provide transporation to/from school. 22315, 22310.

You seem a little fixated on the great schools rating-why? They are pretty subjective and not very scientific. Herndon would be a ****ty commute BTW.

I would forget greatschools. It's unreliable. In fcps all the information is on the county website - test scores, demographics, safety report, etc. It's all factual and reliable. I don't agree that all fcps schools are great. I think the best places to look are probably West Springfield and Burke. Affordable, commut-able, and almost all the schools are good. Kingstowne is kind of iffy - some good, some not so much, plus it's acps, not fcps.

One more possibility - Annandale is an easy commute for you, but there is only one ES that probably meets your criteria - Canterbury Woods ES. Also Mason Crest ES is new, and might be good, but I don't know.

Kingstowne area schools are Fairfax County schools.
