The town is still standing hard against issuing special permits allowing certain private daycares to hold 12 kids. They are essentially ignoring what the county has said and are maintaining a stance of 7 kids max.

a family member of mine runs one within the town and I figured future potential residents, current residents know of this situation. the town is really trying to avoid having younger families move into town for whatever reason of which I myself don't understand. The irony of being a family friendly area might be true if your kids are older, but those who need a daycare will soon find themselves finding themselves competing with other places for spots, as of right now it looks like a bunch of children will be displaced from daycare within the town itself.

I personally would like to plead to folks with kids or soon to be parents who are looking for a daycare within the town to voice their concerns to those in charge of this town. I know a few centers who will close down due to the number of children being limited to 7 and those who survive will need to increase prices to maybe offset the cut in numbers (don't forget the number of people employed in the daycare).

Thanks for the update. Am I correct that Loudoun is allowing the 12 kids too?

7 kids doesn't pay a mortgage and expenses unless each kid is about 3-400/week min. even then who knows what financial state those other providers are in. my family member was always one of the lowest rates in the area. I had to tell her to increase just a bit her rates, because she wouldn't after over a decade. Everything has gone up in a decade.

A friend of mine is putting his baby in a home daycare in FFX County where the woman limits it to 5 max. She charges 250/week.

she's probably working alone then. anything over 5 would require assistants and they demand salary too.
it also depends on how much the zoning allows for as well, which might be 5 max (esp if its a townhouse) or 7 max if its in the town of Vienna (of course this depends on the zoning of said house).

You are talking about home daycares? Twelve kids in a home daycare sounds like a lot to me in a residential neighborhood. You would need a huge house to have an adequate daycare for 12 kids. Seven sounds more reasonable. Maybe there were a lot of complaints near the crowded home daycares about neighborhood congestion for dropoffs/pickups.

I agree, I wouldn't put my child in a home with 12 kids, the ages can vary too much. Might as well go with a daycare center, where there are more inspections and in my opinion control.

That said, I know it isn't always feasible for every family. But the new rules IMO aren't to punish but to increase safety etc.

You can have a 1000+ sq.ft. basement completely devoted to a home daycare. I don't think that is too small an area to have 12 kids in, and probably provides more space per child than a room in a daycare center would. It is much more convenient (and comforting) for some parents to not have to go outside their neighborhood to drop off and pick up, and also have a more friendly and personal relationship with the person caring for their kids since they are neighbors.
