I need to attend a weekly event in either Baltimore or Columbia Maryland. I have a choice in terms of which office to go. I live in western Loudoun. The distance between my house and the Baltimore office is 77 miles. The distance to the Columbia office is 69 miles. To get to Baltimore, I need to take the back roads through purcellville, lovettsville, Brunswick, and Frederick, then 70-W. To get to Columbia, I need to take the Greenway, then 495 and 95. The event starts at 6:00 pm. So I need to wade through rush hour traffic either way. Fortunately, I only need to do this commute once per week, maybe even biweekly.

For those who commuted similar routes, could you let me know which way takes less time? Distance wise, Columbia is slightly closer to my home than Baltimore (by 8 miles). But I suspect the 495 traffic is a lot worse than the Baltimore traffic.

Thank you for your help.

Why do you say you have to go I-70 for the Baltimore route, but the Beltway for the Columbia route?

Why couldn't you just take I-70 to 32 and down to Columbia?

Either way, I'd advise you to take 70 and not 495 or 95. Columbia is a little quicker.

Don't take 267+495+95 ... dealing with inner suburban traffic all the way.

267+340+70 will do you right. Hell I'd take that route to Bawlmer.

Thank you all. It's my GPS that showed the 495/95 route to Columbia. I am glad I checked with folks here.
