I was going to say that the folks in my husband's office were told to come in tomorrow morning to do paperwork.

We were told to do that but have up to 4 hours; I would love to use all 4 hours, but I don't think we're getting paid for the time spent closing up/filling out timesheets/collecting the signed memo from everyone.

It's really asinine. Some folks live 20 miles away from our building or more; making them come in just to sign a piece of paper adds insult to injury. (They don't get paid either way, so what's the point?) Only at DoD!

OPM.gov shows operating status as "Open". Guess whoever was supposed to update it got furloughed...

So my spouse went to work for the four hours of shutdown procedures. If no official furlough notice is handed out and the official OPM operating status is Open, wouldn't there be a risk of being considered AWOL if a person left after four hours? The news reporting a government shutdown doesn't constitute official notice. Thoughts?

As per WTOP, OPM didn't update because it's still officially open like buildings are open to receive employees, receive furlough papers, complete the paperwork etc. OPM will probably update in the next 3-4 hours.

Yeah, my guess is that OPM will show "OPEN" all day. People have all day to do their 4 hours I believe.

It might be up to the individual agency, but we were told to have everything shut down by 1:30pm.
