I have to go to Warrenton for a few days at the end of October. Are there any neat things to do there that the locals know about? I don't really see much there, and I'd rather do more than hang out in my hotel room or go to the Wal-Mart...

If you have time, and the shutdown is over, drive out 211 towards Luray and visit the Skyline Drive. Some gorgeous views up there. The old town area is pretty boring but can kill an hour or so. The old jail is pretty neat, and free. Warrenton is not known for a plethora of things to do if you're young and need excitement. The Air and Space museum near Dulles is very interesting.

Climb Old Rag Mountain. It's nearby, maybe 20 minutes or so by car. I think the short hiking route is four hours or so.

We still get some nice days at the end of October so you could try visiting some of the wineries in the area.
