The mountains are gorgeous, but who has time to drive all the way out there? If you wanted to see some fall color in the local communities, where would you go? Looking for parks, but also streets that are nice to drive down.

Take a drive West on Route 50 to Upperville. It's an easy drive with lots of color. Have lunch at the Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville.

If you have some time, but not so much time to go all the way to Shenendoah, I would suggest heading up Hwy 7 to Winchester, have lunch in the downtown street mall, then come home on Hwy 50 through Middleburg and Upperville.

You'll be glad you did.

Looking more for places east of Leesburg. Does Burke Lake have good trees? GW Parkway?

I have to agree with Great Falls. You can even go to the Maryland side, which to me is a lot better. It isn't really that much more of a drive if at all.
