Anyone know what time the first trains come through the King Street station on the way to DC in the morning on a regular weekday schedule? I know it opens at 5AM, but I'd like to know if I'll have to wait until 5:30 to catch the first train. I'm trying to make it to national for a 7AM flight.

Alternately, if you happen to be within walking distance of the King Street station, you might consider taking a cab. I believe the fare to National would be in the $20-25 range. It may be worth the investment for peace of mind, especially given the tight timeline you'd have on the Metro link provided above.

First one is 5:03, then 10 minutes to the airport. I've never been in National, so I couldn't tell you if an hour forty five is enough time.

Thanks! Looks like this site shows trains leaving in 4-5 minute intervals beginning around 5:10AM, which suits me perfectly. For some reason I assumed that even though the entire system opened at 5AM, that only meant that there were sporadic trains at interior stops at random intervals. It looks like they're basically running the same schedule at 5:10 that they run at 6:45 (which I'm accustomed to).

Based off my experiences there, forty-five minutes is enough. I'll probably be dozing off at my terminal 10 minutes after arriving there, which is one of the reasons it's my favorite large airport.
