During the last storm we (in Winchester) got a pretty good coating of ice on trees, power lines, etc. I had not seen that in years and took some photos. It all melted in the afternoon anyway because it reached 40°.

We have a family member on detail in North Carolina who informs me that yesterday was a mess, people driving nutso, sliding into swamps, etc. Right now, they're going through the sheet of ice heading our way. NC is expecting 0.5" of ice (not including the snow). I do not know how much we're getting here but it's better to prepare IMO in case electricity does go out.

Just starting to see the first snowflakes here in the western section of Floyd County, an hour southwest of Roanoke so I imagine it won't be too much longer before NoVa starts to experience some snow too.

Some people may still have to work Thurs & Fri regardless of weather, and maybe don't want to deal with finding a gas station that's still open tomorrow if they're pretty low. My first job in DC I didn't get off work for snow unless the stock market closed(which never happens).

Maybe others do it just in case of emergency. Not many people are planning on leaving the house tomorrow but you just never know what you may have to do in an emergency. I know I wouldn't want our SUV to be low right now, just in case.

Unless that cold is going to come blasting in from the NW, right now it looks too warm for sustained snow.

[I'm looking at wunderground's map with "stations" enabled to show temperatures actively being measured]

My son on assignment in Fayetteville, NC informs me they now have hail/ice. They are "bunkered" in and the hotel they are staying at is now turning away any travelers who need lodging (all booked up). The nearby restaurants, including fast food gigs are closed so there's nowhere for these travelers to eat.

Hope we're not getting all this but if we do, definitely gas up your car, make sure cell phones are charged, and travel with food and water.

It sounds really nasty.

We are allowed to leave work early today. I'm going to go to the gym, get some Chipotle, and sleep for 12 hours straight! It doesn't get much better than this!

I hope you have to go in tomorrow. It might help build your character.
