A lot of supervisors where i work don't like teleworking and it doesn't help that these same supervisors can't establish work priorities which is essential in teleworking.
I'm a Federal (DoD) supervisor. My people telework, as do I. I don't care if you watch CNN, do laundry, or whatever--as long as you get your work done and are accessible to those who need to reach you. We're not hourly workers making widgets, so that each hour of work corresponds with some quantity of work performed. We work on large projects that are very stop/start. There are times when there's not enough to do and other times when there's too much.

Being salaried means you're available to do the work that needs doing. In the slow intervals, one cannot invent work. (OK, the SES people--having the unique ability to hear the whispers of the good-idea fairy--actually do invent work of questionable value for themselves and their staff to pursue, making a nuisance of themselves while using up others' time. All so they can say they "led change" and get their yearly bonus.)

Just wanted to post something I saw that confirmed my suspicions all along. I regularly tell this to people that talk to me and they don't really think I know what I'm talking about.

That theory that the water some how seeps into the pavement and when it gets cold, it turns to ice, and ice expands so it cracks the pavement, resulting in a pothole is more of a myth.

Yes, this does occur and it does cause holes. But lets be like me for a second and think like an engineer.

How does this basic/natural process result in holes that are larger than car tires? Think about it. Where did the pavement go? How do these holes end up being so huge and so deep?

I'll tell you how!

Yesterday as I was driving home from work, I saw a snow plow with his large shovel dropped to the ground, cutting up pavement like a birthday cuts through cake. I kid you not. The road was mostly clear yesterday yes? Then what was this guy doing?

Chunks of rocks, ice, AND pavement were being cut up like crazy. Today I drive on that same road and it looks like it aged 10 years. This is the type of crap that occurs.

I already replaced all 4 rims a couple of months ago and last weekend replaced brake pads, rotors, and calipers.

The snow has cost me thousands!

So what do I think of tomorrow's snow storm? I think I just gave another reason why work should be closed until the snow AND ice are completely gone!

so... ignore all snow, ice, etc. - until it's convenient for you?

Did anyone get any of that snow or ice that was predicted for this morning? I was 1/2 expecting to slip when I took dogs out at 3:15(am). Pleasantly surprised that didn't happen
