I woke up at 7am checking if we were off work. I went to the Belvoir webpage that I already loaded up last night so I would just have to wake my computer to check. It said Green status. I was . Then I hit refresh and prayed. I was .

Because that job has been mostly taken over by adults and their lawn care companies.

Same with kids going around and asking to cut your lawn.

We have an electric contractor company here that does driveway plowing and sidewalk shoveling.

Roads are great (depending on where you live). Even our neighborhood road is down to wet pavement now and that was after 8 inches of snow. The ground is warm. Could be worse, though, if you are in a far-flung western suburb because it's probably colder.

I'm in Lake Ridge, like you IIRC, so I just need to venture to Wal Mart or Wegmans. The community sidewalks and roads are already cleared...took days last time.

I think it is the opposite. The only reason I would ever hire a professional for those jobs is because there are no kids doing it. I don't think the kids stopped doing it first.....I think the professional companies picked up the business when kids stopped doing it.

I don't know if it is the chicken or the egg, but if I owned a lawn care company or anything else that was focused primarily in the spring and summer, I would definitely want to find at least some work to do through the winter.

Absolutely agree with this, and lawn care companies have been plowing and removing the snow from businesses and estates for eons. I'm talking about the removal of snow from the regular, ol', middle class house in a neighborhood. When I grew up, you NEVER saw a commercial truck plowing the driveways. If it wasn't the owners shovelling, it was the neighborhood kids. Maybe it's always been that way in NoVA, but it certainly was different in suburban Philly.

The roads are fine. I went to the post office and grocery store. I noticed as soon as our neighborhood street was plowed whatever was left melted quickly.
