Hi,
I am thinking about taking a job in DC but I live in Ashburn. I'm not certain of this yet but I am expecting the job offer to be around 10-15k + higher than another job offer in fairfax. Clearly I would be crazy to drive into the city every day, so I was thinking of taking the loudoun commuter bus. Anyone have experience on this bus and what it's like? I'm justifying the longer commute in my mind because it will be down time (me time, reading/nap time) so even though I will be away from home longer, I will be more well-rested/relaxed in the time that I am home. Is this a false illusion I'm making up for myself? Thoughts?? Thanks!

I take the Loco bus from Roslyn on occasion and I love it. Sit back and snooze. Occasionally they are delayed 10-15 mins due to traffic. But you sign up for the text or/email alerts and you can determine how much time till the bus picks you up. It is first come first serve wrt seating. You also get to know the certain driving styles of the drivers. $7 one way with a smart trip card.

I've heard great things about the Loudoun bus.

Looking way ahead, into the future, I'm wondering if they'll continue the bus after Metro is built out to Dulles? Metro SUCKS.

Thanks! Good to know these are all positive remarks. I hope they don't take the bus away! I agree, Metro does suck.

I think everyone's tolerance is different. I worked downtown for 11 years and I'll never do it again. I also lived all over NoVA and did different commutes into DC. Drive, walk/subway, bus, subway, etc.

How did you find a way out of DC? I'm in the public health research arena and most jobs in this field are in bethesda/rockville or DC. not good for a NoVA person like myself....

Definitely had a change in industry and had to take a pay cut initially

Have you tried Janelia Research Center? It's in Lawnsdowne (the easternmost part of Leesburg, most people would guess it was in Ashburn).
