I'm currently needing to work a couple days per week in DC - but my lease is up and I am looking at my options for commuting from western Fairfax County, Loudoun County or Prince William County.

I am wondering which of these options would be the least hassle and shortest in terms of time:

Western Fairfax - bus to Vienna Metro, Metro to DC, walk to office

Loudoun County - commuter bus straight to DC (seems like this would be the best?)

Prince William County - drive to VRE lot, VRE to DC, change to Metro station to get to office near Farragust West.

Have I left something out here? any advice>? Thanks

Seems like Loudoun would be the quickest and most convenient since no transfers are involved. Have you checked the website for the commuter bus, VRE and Metro to determine travel time for each leg of the journey?

There is a commuter lot in western PW that now has bus service directly to DC. It's located at Balls Ford Rd and 66

OmniRide Gainesville AM Schedule

Forgot to mention that this commuter lot also has buses to West Falls Church metro.

I wonder where do you park to catch the Loudoun commuter bus. There's no way to walk to my nearest stop (Verizon campus on LC Parkway). Is there parking there? The OP would need to consider how to get from their home to the nearest stop.

The Park & Ride on Sycolin Rd, Leesburg fills up pretty fast and the last bus directly to Rosslyn - DC departs at 7:45 am. The later bases will take you to WFC Metro which would still work for you. It's $7 one way & the Park & Ride is $0. You won't need to transfer on the commuter bus. Check out their Web site for schedules and you can calculate and compare time and costs for each of your options. Good luck!

In Feb 2014 the easiest would be Western Fairfax to Wiehle station metro via bus or by driving.

thanks everyone for the responses. seems the best option is fewest transfer points...I am especially interested in the busses that go straight to DC and have stops near the White House (I work a block away from there).

I have been looking at townhome rentals in Loudoun County to get an idea of pricing. Now, with the news of the Gainesville bus, I went to compare Gainesville rentals - prices there look about 10-15% cheaper (or more) than comparable housing units in Loudoun County.

What gives? people don't want to live off Rte 66? is that the issue?

Thanks again

Why would this be easier than Western Fairfax to the Vienna Metro?

Thanks
