You forgot the third option: stagnant or drift sideways!

Monthly check in with the economists and financial analysts here on an anonymous online forum?

I am mostly just giving you a hard time - it doesn't offend me if you post the same thing, but I don't know that people's answers are going to change too much in just a month's time frame.

Over the weekend, a friend announced that "housing prices have nowhere to go but UP!" Apparently, there is a big boom coming. Hmmmm.....

Being from Texas, I grew up with oil booms and busts. What I try to do is think about what "I" am going to do in either situation. And I go from there. Nothing is guaranteed except change.

I will say commercial real estate around here is a bit in the toilet -- JLL says their leasing biz in NOVA is down 22%; same for CBRE. I heard IBM is laying off like crazy and Booz just let go a bunch of senior management folks, too. So who knows....

If a lot of people start echoing that sentiment then we're definitely back in a bubble. I heard so many people telling me that back in 2004-2005, including my realtor.

When is the bubble? In 2015 or 2016?

On the topic of home prices, I thought this was a great opinion piece in the Post this morning: Catherine Rampell: Americans think owning a home is better for them than it is - The Washington Post

Echoes what I like to tell people a lot - housing is not a good investment. Perhaps, a good long-term financial decision, but not the best investment you can make.

I keep looking, but still can't find that crystal ball. Maybe I left it in the shed with the garden tools and sprinklers.......

Seriously, NO ONE knows when the next bubble will happen. It's akin to "knowing" when the stock market will crash or what the winning lottery numbers are.

FYI, I know when the stock market is going to crash.
