My husband is taking a job in Bethesda, MD. We are moving from Germany-Ramstein Air Force Base.

I've looked on-line at Falls Church City. What would the commute time be for my husband? Is there public transportation?

The National Naval Center at Bethesda is right by a metro station. I am not familiar with the metro options in Falls Church City though so can't answer you commute time question.

A non-rush hour commute from Falls Church to Bethesda would run roughly 25 minutes. However, a rush hour commute would involve a heavy stint on the notoriously unpredictable Beltway. I would say that, while it depends on the time of day, you should expect a commute of at least an hour.

A Metro commute would be doable. You have your pick of two stations in Falls Church, West Falls Church or East Falls Church (although funnily enough, I don't think either actually lie within the city limits, but just over the borders) both of which have the Blue and Orange Line Metro service. Parking is difficult at these stations so it may require a bus ride to the station beforehand. But once you get there, you take Metro to Metro Center in DC and transfer to the Red Line and head to the Medical Center. The Metro portion of your trip will take approximately 45 minutes. There are days when driving may be quicker than Metro, but Metro is at least more reliable and your husband's work may cover the cost of his tickets.

IIRC, that's a short walk from the NIH metro stop.

Driving is a possibility too if you leave early. As soon as you cross over into MD, I'd recommend to take River road and shortcuts through Potomac/Bethesda (instead of staying on 495 after the 270 split).
