Hi there,

I am currently living in the 'burbs of MD & in need of a change. My job is actually located in VA but I had resisted moving for various reasons. Now I am wanting to live in a neighborhood/area where I can meet other professionals. I am particularly interested in places that have access to bike trails, friendly neighborhood bars (not really into the 20-something scene of Dupont anymore or into the 'hipster' overpriced neighborhoods of Foggy Bottom), restaurants, tennis leagues, swimming pools, etc. I don't have any pets but I do enjoy trivia, happy hours, farmer's markets, art galleries, theater, etc. Any recommendations for neighborhoods that might fit this criteria?

Thanks!

Reston sounds like it would be a good fit. Everything depends on your budget so if you give a maximum rent/purchase price people can make more suggestions. It also helps if you give a general location of your job because you know the traffic issues.

Off the top of my head Old-town Alexandria seems to be a good spot for 30 somethings. This is, however, entirely dependent on your housing budget and where you work in VA.

Also LOL at "hipster" Foggy Bottom.

If you've gone down to a 6-7 on the party scale, Reston or Old Town Alexandria would work depending on your needs.

If you're a 4-5 now, I'd look at Herndon or Old Town Fairfax.

Also depends on where you work and your $$$ (and if you're wanting a roommate).

Well my office is near King Street. I'd be ok spending up to $1700/month for rent...

Default Crystal City/pentagon City

Crystal City/Pentagon city is my suggestion. Tons of huge apartments both older and brand new. The bars on 23rd street have everything from live bands, trivia night, sports bar or drag shows. I'm 35 and always feel comfortable hanging there with my husband. You can walk to the metro, the mall, costco, farmers markets, nail salons, coffee shops, ice skating or outdoor concerts at pentagon row. The Mt Vernon trail is right there and you could even bike to work in Alexandria.
