Hi everyone! I did a search on this topic and found a couple of items, but need more help. I have a rising 7th grader who has a learning disability. She has an IEP, but it has not worked, IMO. I have tried the public school route, but with little success. Are there any schools in Northern VA that focus on a learning disabled teen who isn't an average or above average student? I've researched The Lab School (DC), Commonwealth Academy (Alexandria), The New School (Fairfax) and The Oakwood School. All of them seem to focus on students who are deemed average to above average in intelligence. I am at a loss as to what my options are. If I could homeschool my daughter, I would, however, I am a single parent and the sole breadwinner, so this isn't an option for me. What can I do to help my child thrive academically inspite of her learning disability? Thank you in advance to your responses.

Take a look at the McLean School, in Potomac, Maryland. It's not in northern Virginia, but depending on your location, it might be a do-able commute. McLean School
It's hard to tell from the website, but I've been told that McLean targets a wide range of abilities, especially those who are performing at below-average levels.

Hi Claremarie, thank you for your quick response. I'm still trying to learn how to move around in this forum. I will take a look at the McLean School and let you know what I find out. Thank you so much! GreenIvy
