Hi Folks,

I am moving to Reston in 4th week of March.

Was just thinking how difficult is it to

- obtain Social Security Number
- obtain a driving license
- Registration to local authorities(if there is any such procedure).
- Help in Government Compliances.

Is it possible to do all the above said stuff by self OR it is advised to hire a company assisting in Destination Services.

Thanks
Abhilash

Welcome to Northern Virginia!

The first thing that you will need is a social security card. I assume that you will have legal status here, so that should not be too difficult if you go to the right office. Some are more easy to deal with than others. There is an excellent office near the Rosslyn Metro stop. See Social Security Administration - Rosslyn - Arlington, VA | Yelp

If you do not know your way around, or feel that you need some help, contact these people. They may know of some service for immigrants, or they may be able to help you get settled.

It is certainly possible to do alll of these things by yourself. But, if there is a company that handles the logistics for you, and it's a price you find reasonable, it may be worth it. As I am sure with governments all around the world, the beauracracy could be maddening.

It may be worth it to pay smeone else to forgo the hassle.

Are you a U.S. Citizen? A SS card should be hard to get if you're NOT born here..... I hope you ARE born here! If you are a citizen, you should already have an SS card you have to, to file taxes!

If you are NOT a citizen, and have not paid taxes...then some sort of immigration office might be able to help you.
