Hi Everyone,

My cat got loose on Friday night and hasn't come back. I live right off of Shiplett Blvd. closer to Burke Lake Rd in Burke. If anyone has any info please contact me at 571-201-0240.

Description:

Name: Bear, also answers to sweetboy and will come running for "treats"
Color: Black w/ white patch on front chest
Eyes: Yellowish
Weight: 12 lbs.

He is very sweet and playful.

Thank you!

There is a central way to generate a report to send to the animal shelters. You can also post on craigslist, but I don't know how effective that is. When our puppy was missing, I found a great reference on the internet (where, I couldn't say) but it said to talk to *everyone* - mailman, neighbors, anyone walking around, local veterinary practices, etc.

I hope you find your kitty!

PS - We found our puppy after about 9 hours; then a month later an animal shelter called from 50 miles away to say they thought they had him! I had tried to cancel the report but I guess they had printed it out - so sweet and thoughtful.

What a nice reply, goldenmom. I've also been impressed by the Virginia animal shelters. Boy cats sometimes dissappear for a few days at this time of year. I don't know why--it seems a little early for finding a girl friend, but ever since I've moved jere I've noticed this is true. Around the end of January it seems like I hear about somebody's male cat disappearing and then coming home a few days later with a big grin on his face.

BTW, congrats to goldenmom on winning the $50. You're so helpful to everyone--you deserved it!!!

Yes thank you very much for your reply Goldenmom. It was very nice. I wanted to report that at 10:30 last night, my kitty was meowing at my back door. So he has come back. I don't know what it is about this time of year either. He keeps trying to dart out, but hopefully now he'll stay. He seemed happy to be home, but I'm sure that will wear off in a day or two and he'll be back at trying to get out. Thanks everyone!

H O O R A Y!!!!!!!!!!

PS - thanks normie! I'm going online now to do some *shopping*!

PPS - I found a dead mouse on my back deck yesterday, pretty sure "thanks" to one of my cats - I couldn't even pick it up, so far I just whisked it down the steps and covered it up - I need a braver person to help me (and I'm usually not like this!)

I'm glad you found your cat. Have you considered a microchip? Your vet can give you details on the procedure and it's helped to return many pets to their owners.

I never really though about it. I figured it would be expensive and I never let my cats out. My new roommate keeps letting him out by "accident". He kept coming right back, until last time. I'm going to try a collar first. He didn't have a collar on because he never went out. Does anyone have a microchip in their pet? Was it expensive?

I am not impressed with VA animal shelters - I went to one and was wondering why there were hardly any dogs in it and it was because they put them down so quickly - it was a state of the art facitlity and mostly empty - such a shame.

Are you sure about this? I don't know about the dogs (I'm a cat person) but I know for a fact that the the animal shelter in Loudoun does not ever put cats down unless it's for a serious medical problem.
