I don't get when people say Clifton has a small town feel, have you driven through Clifton between 7-9 am and 3-6 pm? It's super backed up and congested, obviously it's people using it to avoid 28/123/29/66 etc. It's rural to a degree but there's no small town feel.

Unless you're willing to commute over an hour and a half or 2 hours and live far out there's no small towns in NoVA.

right, you can't really get a "small town" in Fairfax. However, you can get a nice neighborhood close to things that has some charming elements. Our neighborhood has a yearly parade that goes right down my street - it's the homecoming parade for Chantilly HS. We can hear the football games from our backyard in the fall, and we can hear the marching band practicing in the afternoons. That's what I think about when I think small town feel. We can walk to all 3 levels of school and the local library (albeit carefully, as you have to cross a fairly major road to do so).
