IMO Channel 4 has the best reporting. Channel 5 is definitely awful - they say incorrect things on air all the time. But not a big difference between 4, 7, and 9.

I can't stand Channel 5 either, 4 for only short periods of time - ALL the female newscasters "scream" or use Really loud voices. On mornings especially, I watch 7 and/or 9.

I can't take Channel 7 in the mornings. The Giggle Girls drive me up the wall. The weather/traffic and most news stories are just not that funny at 6 am.

Channel 5 tries too hard to be the TMZ of DC. Channel 4 is definitely the best out of them all when it comes to accuracy and just reporting the news.

It's kind of interesting all the comments about 4 weather versus 7 weather. I grew up watching Channel 4 and Bob Ryan. In fact, I did a brief stint with the satellite weather area of NOAA back in my 20s and Bob Ryan was the KING there!!

Anyway, I noticed that Channel 4 weather reports (starting at the end of Ryan's tenure there) were just not quite right or accurate and that Channel 7, Doug Hill, was calling it more precisely. One of my co-workers commented on it too and even started using the term Lyin' Bob Ryan (NO!!! Just not right!!!). But in the past few years, I have switched to Channel 7 and I do think I like it better. I like Leon Harris and Allison Starling. I like Doug Hill. But, I actually still do watch Channel 4 and I like them all too. What can I say, I just thought that in previous years, Channel 7 was nailing the weather a little bit better.

I never, ever watch the morning news. Those morning personalities sure do sound interesting! Or is it annoying?

I used to watch Channel 4 back when Joe Krebs and Barbara Harrison anchored, Jerry Edwards reported the traffic, and Tom Kierein forecasted the weather. When the station (along with its rivals) began to market morning eye candy over substantive reporting a few years ago, I stopped watching.

With regards to WTOP, I'm sure it was simply a matter of money: they got a better package deal from WRC than WJLA. Maybe the new ownership of Channel 7 had something to do with that. In any case, I don't think it matters who gives the forecast on WTOP; you're bound to get the same product: dramatically-presented fluff that is wrong more often than not!
