it's a little surprising, you'd think a place like pollo pollo would do great in a place where the clientele is mostly latino

bad news guys - the Sears in Manassas mall is the latest victim of Sears and Kmart closures. It will shut down in February. That Sears has been an anchor store at Manassas mall since the 1980s. What are your memories of the Sears at Manassas mall?

I went to the high school down the road a little ways back in the 70's. They had a big overweight security guard that wore his white shirt. He'd hunt down high school students during school hours and kick us out. Yes, I skipped a few times and we walked to the mall. There was an Orange Julius (is this the name?) and we loved going there. My first official job was a Jeans store next to the Orange Julius but I didn't stay there long. It was usually pretty busy as Fair Oaks Mall was not around so you didn't have many choices.

My last pair of long pants I purchased, was at that Sears in 2013. Had a 10 dollar off coupon, and unlike Macy's, I was allowed to use it on Levi's. A few years previous, I was getting ready to refurbish some real estate, and browsed their appliances.. it was obvious that they were not going to survive, as prices were 25%+ more than HD, Lowes were charging.. but if you had no money and a sears card... Beat the heck out of Kohls in Charlottesville or even Macy's at Glen Allen.

Dang, Manassas Mall is still there? I haven't been there since the early 2000's and it was looking in bad shape.

It's actually become better lately. We moved to the area from the west coast in 2006. I remember going to the mall and the whole end where the Walmart is now (it was just empty back then) had several homeless camped out.

Now there is an upscale bowling alley, an indoor go-cart race track, and a large indoor playground for pre-school age kids.

Over the last few years Manassas mall has experienced a resurgence of sorts - I'm not sure how the Sears closure will affect it though
