Does anyone actually do either commute? Work hours are 9-5 M-F. Was trying to live closer to Reston, but don't like how little house/yard I can get for the money. Thinking about commuting roughly 60 mins or less each way & wondered if either area was generally that timeframe. I have an EzPass & have been commuting from Spotsylvania to Potomac Mills area for the past 2 years -- which gets rough when the HOV lanes end at Stafford. Thanks.

Stafford to Reston? Dude, thats beyond insanity. You're hitting every major congested road/highway in NoVa going to and from work. Reston to Woodbridge with traffic is about an hour and change. To Stafford? You'd be looking at 1 hour and 30 mins to 2 hours.

I'm not sure about Warrenton or Nokesville but I'd assume it's somewhat better than Stafford but that's a major guess.

Even the back way through Stafford? I'd avoid 95 altogether.

Yeah, still would be a pretty long drive.

Warrenton and Nokesville will be the better of the two, but neither is exactly a nice commute. It's going to take you 1 hr from Nokesville and 1:15+ from Warrenton. I only go to Chantilly from Bristow and average is 45 mins. Biggest problem is the I-66 and Hwy 234 entrance...it backs up 66 for miles. Hwy 29 at the 234 intersection is bad too. Both of those are your main feeders from the West.

I'd look at Leesburg, Middleburg, South Riding, etc if I were working in Reston and didn't want to pay Reston prices.

There is no EasyPass from the West.

Compromise on the house/yard and move closer to Reston.

Don't make your life miserable just for the sake of a "HOUUUSSEE"

Well, actually, EasyPass (and the tons of money needed to feed the EasyPass to keep it happy) is very helpful from coming from West points like Middleburg, Leesburg, Ashburn, and those further West. The Greenway and Toll Road aren't cheap, but they do save a lot of time.

natyloo,
I have a colleague who commutes to Reston from Woodbridge/Potomac Mills area (his hours are 8am-4pm or 8:30-4:30). He says that on a good day it takes at least 60 to 70 minutes to get to work, and on a bad day it takes ~1.5 hours. Stafford is located ~15 miles south from Woodbridge? So it will add at least another 20-30 min to this commute. So as other people already said Stafford to Reston would be ~ 1.5-2 hours commute/ each way...

Hellish commute with your hours. You'd probably commit suicide your first Friday afternoon

I commute from Bristow to the Fair Lakes area at the height of rush hour and good day is 45 minutes. Depending on exactly where in Warrenton or Nokesville and Reston, I would count on 1 1/2 hrs for a good day. Throw in an accident, bad weather, etc........not worth it
