Has this crossed your mind in your decision to live in Northern Virginia?
Where do you live in MD?

GMU's list of professors reads like a who's who. Maybe not to Ivy League standards, but they do have former Cabinet and Agency heads teaching, Federal judges, a ton of politicians (not sure if good or bad), two Nobel Laureates (both in Economics) and two current Pulitzer Prize winners (there's been a total of 3). GMU taps into Federal Reserve members, Assistant Secretaries, Ambassadors, military strategists......so many Washington, DC connections are teaching here. No, it's not George Washington or Georgetown, but it's no backwoods college either.

Of course I'm partial to Virginia, but this school deserves a serious look for several reasons.

I would believe so, but over the long term.. like very long term. Say 50-100 years. Lots of increased amenities for residents (public lectures, libraries, sometimes athletic facilities), and start-ups to take developments in the university to market.

But after having lived in many markets with a university (both as a student and as a resident), it's not all pluses

Tell that to all the people who lives off of Braddock and have to deal with the extra traffic from concerts and basketball games at GMU.

I did some time at Penn State back before the scandal. Game day weekends State College completely shutdown for local residents.

However, we got to enjoy the great restaurants, shopping, and campus amenities during school breaks. Was quite a treat.
