There was a proposed comprehensive plan about 10 years ago: http://www.fairfaxva.gov/government/...rd-master-plan to replace all those aging retail sites but I believe that it got voted down.

All though I think they're now starting up again but in small increments. That tiny shopping center that used to have the Hooters is slated to have an extension of University Drive: University Drive Extension (Proposed) | City of Fairfax, VA go through it.

And here are plans for redeveloping Fairfax Shopping Center:

Quote:
Fairfax Shopping Center, 10342-10412 Fairfax Boulevard — The property owner has proposed a redesigned shopping center with retail, restaurant, and Whole Foods 365 grocery; submission of complete application pending.
. Source: https://patch.com/virginia/fairfaxci...ojects-fairfax.

The city also mentions the same thing here: http://www.fairfaxva.gov/home/showdocument?id=8328

Not sure if it works with the University Drive extension.

Yes! There are some pretty cool mock ups of the proposed Center with the 365 by Whole Foods. Looks like it’ll be a parking nightmare, but it’ll be nice having a store with organic options closer than MOMs.
