Does anyone know if Norfolk area is a good place to settle down and live in? Hubby works with systems security engineering stuff as a contractor so we are thinking perhaps norfolk area which has more affordable housing and overall living cost is lower than NOVA? We have 1 child so schools are important and crime rate. Anyone has lived there and any good advice? Or heck any good suggestion as to where to live and be able to find good tech jobs in the systems security engineering field???? Thanks!!

Try posting in the Hampton Roads thread - you posted in Northern - probably get more answers (and/or search in that thread, maybe it's already there?)

I think you have the wrong forum, but i'll answer anyway.

Norfolk and vicinity does have a slightly lower cost of living than Northern Virginia. Norfolk also does have a crime rate that is the average for larger cities. For schools, i'd recommend settling in nearby Chesapeake (which is a good deal for the school quality.)
