Looks like I could get about 100,000 miles for getting a realtor through this program to sell a 400,000 dollar house. Has anyone done this in tyhe last few years. Last time, the realtor was from a no name firm and had no other listings...and tried to tack on a 300 dollar fee with my offer, and was immediately terminated, even though he backtracked on that. Please share your experiences with this. Looks like I would be using American Air, but the program looks very similar to United's and deltas. Thanks!

Never heard of getting FF miles for selling a home - I would do some serious research into both the program and the realtor(s).

Hmmmm...for the sale of a house, I'd prefer getting the best realtor I could find. Nothing else. Just my advice.

I've picked up 100,000 miles this past year from credit card offers (Citi and Chase). They both had spending requirements (like $3,000 in 3 months; Citi was $1,000 in two).

So the house thing doesn't look like *that* great of a deal.

I think this could be done easily--if you had a no-limit credit card (Amex Centurion, etc.) and all the cash immediately available to pay it off when the bill comes. (And probably another 1% to cover that huge fee the CC company would charge the vendor/seller.) Of course, if you have that kind of scratch, you probably don't need the airline miles.

Not quite as far-fetched would be the idea of putting each mortgage payment on the credit card.

But I think that might be frowned on if not illegal, in that you'd be using debt to pay debt--like paying off a credit card with another credit card. Otherwise, if you had enough credit cards available and planned it well enough, you could pay each month with a new card for the rest of your life, paying off that card with another card, to be paid off with another card--on and on until you die.

You can also get a similar bonus with a mortgage...and I,'he met people, who did this, and paid it off immediately. You would definitely want a zero cost loan. But 80000 miles on a 24000 commission...not very much of a giveback, but better than nothing. 5% reduction of a 6% commission... You are still paying 5.7%....of course there is the FSBO option.

I'm EXTREMELY leery of any "plan" to do this. Those miles are not "free", and nobody is just going to swallow 2% of a house sale price to help you out. Without knowing more, I'm willing to bet you wind up paying much more than the value of those miles.

The only way I heard of to get miles from your mortgage involved a "Bluebird" (IIRC) bank account through Wal-Mart. Buy gift cards with your miles card, use the gift cards to fund the Bluebird account, and pay your mortgage from said account.

Is it your Math skills or reading comprehension? I just stated "0.3%;" not 2%. The OP was about miles for buying and selling not about mortgage payments. I have circumvented the globe 25 times, and only paid six of those times. Maybe I know a little about flying for free.

So why ask us? You know all about it, go and get all those sweet, sweet free miles!

Maybe you could charge an anger management session to your Centurion card and earn a few more miles.
