Hey Everyone,

A few friends and I are tossing around the idea of moving a bit farther out from the center of the NOVA area. Currently, most of us are in/around Arlington and looking to move a bit farther out, to around the areas mentioned (Manassas, Gainesville, Warrenton, etc.). I'd like to be able to move close to my friends as well, but I am a little concerned about the nightlife situation for a young person such as myself (24 yo Male).

Are there any good nightlife spots for young adults (think 21-27) in those areas, without having to make the trek back to Arlington to the usual spots? (i.e. Clarendon). I'm talking about places where, on a Friday/Saturday night, the majority of the folks in there are younger than 30, they are busy until late (1/2 a.m.), and there is maybe some dancing, etc. going on?

I'm pretty unfamiliar with VA apart from Arlington so any insight or specific towns/bars would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, nothing you'd be interested in probably and nothing regular. My daughter is your age and moved out of these areas as quickly as possible. I just read this to her and she laughed!

If nightlife is still very important to you, don't move. I would only move if you were looking to save a lot of money or your job was near one of those areas.

I did this because I was tired of having roommates. Yes, your money goes further but the nightlife is nonexistent. In fact, I still spend most of my Friday/Saturday nights in DC and Arlington at friends houses instead of going back and forth.

My advice, stay in Arlington... it's just easier and convenient.

While it may not compare to Arlington and places inside the beltway I do believe there is ample nightlife in PWC and surrounding areas. Heck, I responded to many bar fights in my 30 plus years with plenty of young people involved. Or is not the kind you're looking for OP?

I would vote for a compromise, I'd consider looking somewhere along 66 like near Dunn Loring, Fairfax, or even Falls Church so you would still be commutable to nightlife but you would save a few $$. Falls Church occasionally has something going on at the State Theatre.

I understand full well this dilemma. I work in Fairfax, but go to D.C. and Baltimore events often so I chose a room in Arlington over a single apartment closer to Fairfax. Helps that my commute is against traffic and my hours are sort of outside regular rush hour.

There is no shortage of bar/restaurants in the outer suburbs but I don't think you will be satisfied with the nightlife.

You'll find that the demographics of the patrons will be different - maybe a little bit older crowd, maybe a little bit of a more blue collar crowd, maybe not as many singles. There might be a few places that will have live music, and even fewer that have a dance floor. Depending on where you are, not as walkable so you'll need to rely on taxi/uber to get around - or have a DD.

I used to live in Ashburn when I was 25. Basically, no. You won't find any nightlife out that way unless it's a local World of Beer or something along those lines, but usually the crowd consists of married couples in their 30's/40's. I moved out of Ashburn after a year to Arlington and haven't looked back.

you will not be happy, but Old Town Manassas has a few places that could qualify as "nightlife".

I echo everybody else...do not make this move if going out is a priority.

Yes, there are a handful of decent places in PWC, but the crowd is going to be much older and more blue collar as Hokie said.

Problem with a compromise is that I dont think you would actually save enough money in a place like Merrifield or Tysons to be worth it. There is actually probably more affordable options in Arlington because it has much older housing stock compared to the new Tysons/Merrifield developments.
