I just thought I'd start a new Woodbridge thread because the other one about Woodbridge crime was too long and hijacked too many times. I do however, want to get some clarification on a few details in the area.

I was told to stay west of I-95 but, I'm looking at a few homes in the following neighborhoods and would like to know if these are decent or if they are high crime areas.

The first is Dawson Landing and the other is Featherstone. The two homes in Featherstone are brand new (built in 2007) and the one in Dawson Landing was built in 2002. Both go to Leesylvania Elementary.

Thanks for any insight you can provide me.

Kevin

I'm not familiar with Dawson Landing, what community or streets is it near? Featherstone is OK. It's an older area with some "issues" in communities. Stay away from the Willowbrook town home community. The state streets are pretty nice if you find a nice house there. Leesylvania is a real nice school. I lived in the community behind it when i was a wee lad of about 10 years old. And it's close to the police station, always a bonus. The area as a whole is in a "revitalization" effort. They are trying to make the Rt.1 area nice again (it was decent during the 70's I hear). It looks like things are improving which will be good for home values.

Dawsons Landing is south of Marumsco Woods. Rippon Blvd goes east right through it. There are some homes in there that are 5 years old and newer sitting on some nice lots.

Thanks for the info!

Ahhh yes, I know where you are talking about. It's near the intersection of Rippon/Blackburn to the East close to the VRE. That is actually becoming a nice area now, but the townhomes at that corner are pretty bad.

The homes there look really nice. They only sit on a half acre and we want more than that. But to keep the commute shorter, we have to sacrifice the acreage unfortunately.

I hope this isn't hijacking your thread Moman1...kick me off if you want

I'm looking at a couple of houses/townhouses off of Mohican Rd. Is anyone familiar with that area? it's off of 641...I know that road has another name but I'm not sure what it is. Thanks!

Mohican is nice. It's in Lake Ridge so the schools tend to be a little nicer. Traffic on Old Bridge can suck, but that's everywhere in PW.

Dawson Landing though attractive is dominated by an abusive architectural review board that issued over 1,000 citations to the 200+ homeowners recently. If you enjoy suffering ...

I live on the opposite of Rt. 1 (west of I-95) but not far from it. Dawson's Landing and the one neighborhood at the end of Featherstone are nice. What would most get on my nerves is the crap you must drive through to get to Featherstone. Awful. I don't really mean that in a "crime" sort of way, just UGLY. To get to Dawson's you do drive through some of the yucky areas of Rippon (my father in law owns a townhouse back there and it's pretty rough) but I guess you could get over that.
