We are in the process of closing the sale of our home in Sterling, VA. With the timeframe still being in the 'summer market' we hoped that finding a new house to buy wouldn't take long, however we realize that the inventory is not great and the houses that we like/can afford/that belong to the schools that we want - don't come very often....
Our dilemma is now what to do when the school year starts and we have move out of our house (beginning of Sept).
I read in one forum, that people rent a short term furnished place to keep searching for a new house without being under pressure. I like this idea, but I don't understand where this new place should be?

If I already knew where we wanted to live (and we don't...), I could probably rent a place in that area so that my kids went to the schools there (I have elementary and middle school age kids). However, under the circumstances, I feel that I should probably I rent in our area, so that kids go to the schools that they are familiar with, and then when we find something, we move and change the schools then?

This is our first time being in this situation, so I would like to hear about other people's experiences under similar circumstances...
Thank you!

I don't have the experience, but I would absolutely continue to rent in the area you are now so that you have the continuity for your kids. You don't want to have to change their school's twice in a short amount of time.

Agreed. Only rent where you want them to go to school if you know for sure that's where you will buy.

Moving is really hard on kids. Disrupt them as little as possible. Change schools only after you move.

Best of luck!
