The flight will be a hassle no matter when you arrive, but in a larger sense, why seek advice if you're not going to take it?

I think it is no problem.

I find either get there very early, or get there towards the latter part, to avoid the idiotic long line in between those times.

1.5 hours before flight is plenty of time.

The airport road is rarely congested, so you should make it.

The "airport road" from Bethesda typically includes the Beltway, which is frequently congested at 3:30 and beyond. One could take Dalecarlia Parkway over to Chain Bridge and then out 123, but the time savings there would be questionable.

So you'd rather risk missing your flight than getting there 30 minutes earlier than you plan? Mmk then.

The airport road runs from the Beltway to the Airport. That part is usually not congested. I figured that it didn't need to be mentioned that from Bethesda to the airport road would definitely be congested. The only time savings is on the airport road once they get to it.

Just don't be one of those people who expects to be allowed to cut in the security line because "my flight is boarding right now!" I always have an urge to trip those bastards as they shimmy to the front of the line.

I guess you would have no problem unless there is a big accident on I495 or Dulles access road.

Not sure where in Bethesda you are located. Assuming it takes 20-30 minutes to reach Dulles access road, add another 15-20 minutes to reach airport.

I hope the airline allows you to do online check-in 24 hours before. If so, you can get seat assignment (if not already done) and enter how many check-in bags you have etc.

If I were you, I would start at 3pm just in case if the airline check-in counters are too busy (being Friday)....
