I've read the thread about Springfield Mall. I think the mall's best days are behind it and it has lost its appeal to me. I went to Potomac Mills today and i'm very impressed. The stores are numerous, the area is clean, and this is in an area more Hispanic than Springfield. The only pain is the traffic. I think that Potomac mills is a great alternative for Springfield.

I go to either one depending on what I'm looking for. Potomac Mills is further, but much cheaper because of all of the outlets. There's also an Ikea, Kohls, and Walmart adjacent to the mall, and a number of other stores in the surrounding area, which makes it convenient for one-stop shopping.

I've gone to Potomac Mills a lot in the past. I never witnessed a gang problem.

Me either! But, there are gangs everywhere! You shouldn't be walking alone in the dark in ANY parking lot!

Gangs are everywhere - even in the best neighborhoods - but I dont think they bother with non-gang members much at Potamic Mills - I have been there several times and have never felt unsafe - of course I dont do dumb things like leave my purse dangling from my arm or park in an isolated area. When I load my kids in the van I never turn my back to the parking lot no matter where I am - I also carry somehting for protection on my key chain.

Seriously, how is there a gang problem at Potomac Mills or are these rumors you're spreading? I go there a few times a month and it's packed with families with kids. The parking lot is also packed with people none of which looks like gang members unless they all the sudden started to push about babies? I've been to movies at the new AMC theater and that area is packed with cops especially at night. For those of you who haven't been to Potomac Mills in the past 1+ year, it's been face lifted. It's not Tyson's Galleria or anything but it's bounds better than Springfield Mall. With the addition of AMC and Costco, that area is always packed with people day and night with no gangs in sight.

There's no place in the DC area, or anyplace else in the world for that matter, that you should leave valuables out in your car. That's just common sense.
I'm not aware of Potomac Mills having a gang problem though. Just because you see a bunch of teenagers hanging around doesn't mean that they're in a gang.
