Hello all,

I will be relocating to Herndon soon. I have my MPH and currently work in research, and Arlington/DC/Bethesda/ area are best options for jobs. But the commute seems pretty killer. Are there any folks who commute from Herndon to DC/Maryland? Additionally, are there any nonprofits/research orgs in the Herndon area as well?

Not sure about your field of work, but two places to check - indeed.com and the Virginia Workforce Connection website (has postings from the others careerbuilder, monster, private/govt/nonprofit employers, and other recruiting firms and sites except indeed). You don't need an account at either just to search. The commute from western Fairfax County to MD can easily be 90 minutes one way to Montgomery or Prince Geroge's Counties in rush hours, if off peak less than 60 minutes, but either time can be two hours if a bad accident. DC is not much better, with Metrorail with regular reliability problems in recent years, and parking unless a perk by your employer can be in the hundreds of dollars per month.

as a rule of thumb, there are more 'science-y' jobs in montgomery county vs. fairfax, but plenty of people make the commute from VA. You could look at INOVA hospital system, george mason univ, or various consulting firms in VA depending on the type of work you are seeking.
