We are family of 2 professionals with 4 1/2 child moving from south Florida to Arlington or Alexandria we would like to live in a walkable area , which makes both of these cities a great match, we are finding that it is not easy to find a permanent place to live on short visits.
Our plan is to find a short term rental 1 or 2 bdrm while we are looking for permanent place to move in.
What we are looking in short term rental: walkable, close to metro station, not exceeding $2000 a month.
All suggestions, even outside of Arlington or Alexandria would be appreciated.

With a 4 1/2 year old child, any decent apartment complex won't let you rent a 1 bedroom place. You will have to rent a 2 bedroom.

When looking for short term rentals, be aware that some places don't allow them. The places that do allow them may well charge more rent than they would someone who signs a 1 year lease.

For weekly rentals, I would try AirBnB. A friend of mine used that when he got a job up here but was still had his home about 4 hours away. While he was transitioning, he would AirBnB for the week and go back to his house on the weekends. Probably not cheap though.

Try militarybyowner.com. I don't think you have to be a military member, as the landlords I've rented from didn't ask for proof of service.
