OP. Sounds like NOVA is for you no matter what experiences others have had under similar situations.

I lived in NoVa for one year. Although I loved it, it made sense for us to move to Maryland. We stayed there for almost 15 years. We were fine there, but necessity drove us back to NoVa where we how lived for 4 years. Some things are better here, some aren't.

If you really miss NoVA, you should come back. Make sure you have found your job and try not to go to places which will bring you unpleasant memories, reestablish contact with your old friends (if you have not already done).....

For me, though I have been living in NoVa over a decade, I still miss bay area in CA. But due to job and other commitments, I couldn't move out of here.

Good luck. If you decide to come back, then 'Welcome back to NoVa'....

My family & I moved from No Va to WA 2 yrs ago. Went for the 'better life". Spent only 6months out there till we left and came back. Was very miserable out there the whole time. I looked to my dad for advice, and his words were...
Right now you have the means tho return. You may not later.
That was all I needed to pack is all back up and return home.
We've been happy in our new home since.
If you're not happy, for whatever the reasons, go home.
It's as simple as that. Good luck!

At this point I'm a bit confused. I'd like to hear from people who had been in my shoe before.

Thanks!

I lived in NoVa previously for about two years ('07 to '09) and had similar feelings after I moved out to Chicago. Chicago has a lot of good things going for it, but I missed the better job market, proximity to family/friends and warmer climate. I toyed with the idea of moving back for a long time and finally went through with it several months ago. To keep a longer story short, I'm in long-term housing now and getting interviews for stuff that's more in line with my professional skills and experience.

I've been back here since 2012 and I think I made the right choice. But now I'm probably going to leave NoVA sometime in the next year. I've gotten emotionally where I am up for a new environment. I'm probably going to move to Ohio (Columbus or Cincinnati) or Indiana (Indianapolis) to be closer to my mother since she has health issues so I can look in on her and plus I think I have better prospects for dating out there.

What I'd say, if you have a job waiting here, go for it.
Thanks for your feedback and sorry for your loss. Wishing in all the best in your endeavors

I've been applying for a job over there, haven't heard back yet but I'm still optimistic. Thank you my friend!

You're right. There is no such thing as a "perfect place", but I believe the pros of living in NoVA are more than the cons.
