Hi everyone!

I lived in Manassas for 2 years then I moved to Houston 2.5 years ago. I left NoVA for personal reason and at that time I couldn't stay there anyone more. But as the time passed by I start missing NoVA and wish to come back.

At this point I'm a bit confused. I'd like to hear from people who had been in my shoe before.

Thanks!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I hated Houston while I lived there (20 years). I appreciate it a lot more for what it is now when I visit. But like hell I’d move back there.

Only you can decide if your experiences here in NOVA make it worth coming back. Not sure I'd make a decision like this based on what strangers on the internet have to say.

Thanks for your comment. Houston has been good to me, but I just couldn't like it.

Thanks for your comment. I know it is my own decision to make, but I'd like to hear from people who moved out then moved back to NoVA.

I am in the same boat. I moved from Arlington to Pennsylvania about 2 1/2 years ago, and for various reasons, I'm missing it and wanting to move back. Like the old saying goes: You don't know what you got until it's gone. When I was there, I hated the congestion, traffic, and cost of living and wanted to go to a better place. Now I am more than willing to put up with those things. It's a better way of life, and the people are of a better quality. Not that everyone is bad where I am; there are plenty of nice people. It's just different. People in NoVA seem to (generally) be more civilized, polite, and respectful. That may be due to the fact that many of the people there are highly educated (lots of high-level government and non-government jobs), though I could be wrong about that.

Yes, but you given no information as to why you moved or why you dislike Houston. Other's experiences won't be relevant unless you have similar likes/ dislikes.

I went thru a very rough breakup while I was there. After I was done with the relationship I decided not to stay there any longer (because of all the memories good and bad), so I accepted a job offer and moved to Houston. As I moved on in my life and achieved some kind of recovery, I start missing NoVA and thinking of moving back. Last July I was travelling to Austria and had a connection at IAD, I was very happy when I saw it from the sky and start recognizing the landmarks.

I dislike many things about Houston; weather, break-ins, high car insurance, nature and it's far away from anything. It takes almost 6 hours drive till you reach state border and nothing really attractive near it.

I couldn't agree more! You just listed everything I'm thinking of or missing about NoVA. When I moved to Houston I was under the impression that the cost of living here is way cheaper than NoVA -the fact is- it is NOT. Maybe renting an apartment is $100-200 cheaper than let's say Manassas, but you have to deal with the break-in which is a matter of "when" not "if". Car insurance is sky high and it keeps getting more expensive by time "even though you keep a perfect record" because 30% of cars are not insured and rubbery/accidents rate is very high, since Apr 2015 I changed 4 insurance companies. Sales tax is %8.25. And unfortunately a handful of people are rude especially while driving, which can be a nightmare while you're on the road!

I lived in NoVA from 2004-2010, moved to Louisville since my mother's job got transferrred, and finished college there. I decided to move back to NoVA in 2012, after I lost both my father and a very close friend with 3 months of each other in 2011, because I wanted to be around some sort of support system which I didn't have in Kentucky.

I've been back here since 2012 and I think I made the right choice. But now I'm probably going to leave NoVA sometime in the next year. I've gotten emotionally where I am up for a new environment. I'm probably going to move to Ohio (Columbus or Cincinnati) or Indiana (Indianapolis) to be closer to my mother since she has health issues so I can look in on her and plus I think I have better prospects for dating out there.

What I'd say, if you have a job waiting here, go for it.
