Posting this since it's relevant to the discussion: Washington Post: Welcome to the D.C. suburbs, where the GOP tax plan could really hurt

Also, Nancy Pelosi isn't perfect but she understands the power of messaging, don't know how republicans are going to convince the american people, particularly those who live in wealthy communities, why this bill is something they should support.

Has anyone thought that people will wait longer to sell and it will cause inventory to drop. Especially with the longer capital gains rule.

Of course no one mentioned Prop 13 in California, with far more severe consequences for selling.

Thank you for posting this. I would be lying if I said this has not concerned me over the last week or so.

Thank goodness! Someone clearly pointed out that messing with the voter's primary residence, is political quicksand, regardless of political party. You just don't do it!

What? Did you actually read the article? The source for the article is "a person familiar with the emerging Senate bill" (aka a tabloid magazine level source) and a quote from Hach

However, when asked whether the panel would keep the $1 million limit intact, he said: “Well, I don’t know. It depends on how much feeling there is about moving it back, but I’m not sure.”

So your post is a false alarm to people thinking $1 million is a done deal. The Senate has yet to even release their version and if they do raise it back the bill has to pass both chambers. People that have $500K mortages are going to lose a lot more money to the capped SALT deduction anyway.

It will be interesting to see how Tuesday’s results will affect the tax bill’s progress.

Default Prepay Property Tax in Fairfax

Does anybody know if Fairfax county allows prepayment of Property tax. As per the tax bill, We cannot prepay state and income tax for 2018, but there is no restriction on prepayment of real estate Property tax.

Yes, Fairfax County and DC both allow prepayment. The catch is that the payment must be received and processed before 1 Jan 2018. This means you will need to bring cash or have an electronic funding transfer. https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/taxes/...pay-2018-taxes

According to their website, you must have the payment in by Dec 26.
