We currently live in Chantilly and are looking to upgrade into our "forever" home.

We are looking for a home that has 4 bedrooms, a guest space, office, and large backyard with some aspect of privacy. I want my children to be able to go out back and run and around and play but yet still have a sense of community with children.

Although our home is older we are blessed to live in a very very family friendly neighborhood with 10+ kids our children's age in the same court we live on...hard to beat...

We are exploring Chantilly and Centreville - can stay local to area, maintain activities/sports team, possibly stay in same school but have found older homes, less space, and fewer upgraders

Or we can move...We've looked at:

Haymarket and Gainsville - money can stretch further, lots of family friendly areas, pools and playgrounds but a longer drive in to go to work (when needed) and to do anything closer in towards FFX or DC

Aldie is closer to where we live now - have seen several homes with nice backyards, still feels close but yet no real accessibility to stores etc that way, more expensive than Haymarket or Gainesville

Any experience on any location - really need to start to narrow our search...

*husband works remote and i work remote about 50% - my situation may not always be like that though,,

What's your budget? And how much is your current house worth?

I'm guessing you're looking for a SF. But are you looking for a McMansion kinda house with a ton of yard space? If so, you may want to check out Aldie or Nokesville. They have big homes with a ton of space but aren't too far from things.

I would check out the Villages of Piedmont neighborhood in Haymarket. It's on route 15 and only about a mile from 66, so you don't spend 10-15 minutes just getting on the road.

We have looked in Piedmont and really like the community - my concern is it looks like 66 is the only way into DC/Falls Church. Concerned that if my circumstances change, and I have to commute more, that may be a nightmare. Whereas in Chantill, Centreville, can hop on 50, 66, 29 etc.

Not looking for a McMansion per say, but want some yard space not like homes in South Riding where people pay $650K and have no yard or a side yard and 4 homes looking into it.

Budget is $650-775K

You're right to be concerned that your situation may change. Construction has begun for the HOT lanes and will continue until late 2020. Not sure how $$ the hot lanes will be OR how easy bus service, etc would be for your work location. The new commuter lots will open before the hot lanes are completed and new bus routes, van pools, etc are being created. I live in Bristow and commute to Fair Lakes at the height of rush hour. It takes 45-60 minutes (18 miles)
