Oakton and Fairfax City birder each other. They have completely different feels. Vienna and Burke would also be very different. Woodbridge and McLean, very different. It’s not all the same demographics wise or by “feel”.

Lies... no no and no....

Depending on what time you leave 286 is empty..... your commute will depend on if you live deep in loudoun or closer to 50 (aldie or ashburn)

if your a renter... yes.... those locations are approriate for a short commute

but if you are buying... no.... Research the schools first.... (hint... pdub county isn't it...) . loudoun... check to see if your area is done building and/or the location is close enough to a school to avoid shuffling. check burke, oakton if your stuck on fairfax...

this is without taking any budget discussions in account...

side note...
i commute from ashburn to belvoir... its not bad at all... 45mins if i dip out at 6... 50 is kinda sucky on the chantilly side but when you get to ffx county pkway its a smooth drive.

and then there is the toll road hustle. ....

On what planet can you get from aft Belvoir to Ashburn in 45 minutes? I could barely get to Ashburn from the Oakton exit on 66 in 45 minutes without traffic. During rush hour in the evening around 5:30-6, it takes 30 minutes to get from 66 to Greenbriar (technically still Fairfax); I cant imagine the slog going even farther.

He said at 6am. Any later than that and it takes 90 minutes or more.

Loudoun to Fort Belvoir will be a terrible commute unless you are working very non-conventional hours. There are plenty of family friendly neighborhoods in places like Burke or West Springfield where you won't have to spend half your life in the car.

No way, no how would I do that commute. Of course budget, schools etc all play a role in deciding where to live, but hands down I would choose Kingstowne, Burke, Island Creek area, parts of Lorton and West Springfield over Loudoun County any day.

Yea..... im not with the 5:30-6 gang.... i try to leave the office no later than 330. Childcare doesn't stay open late... and that 50 traffic at 5:30... never dealt with it and never will. Ill take the toll road via dulles IAD before I sit....

with that said.. OP it all comes down to your job and core hours. if you dont get to set your own hours... it might not be for you.

schools are nice. neighbors are nice... i have a few that commute to the pentagon (shivers) and FB... its not all bad.

A commute from Springfield/Burke/Fairfax Station area would be way better. Loudoun commute would get old really quick.
