Well...when the "affordable housing" becomes overcrowded flophouses, then what's the solution?

Some years back, there was talk about renovating houses in Sterling Park and selling them to civil servants. I don't recall the details as to how this was going to be done but I haven't heard anything lately. I believe that when the foreclosure crisis hit, Habitat for Humanity was planning to buy such properties.

Not meaning to troll eh? Your opening post certainly suggests otherwise, OP.

I’ve lived in LoCo for 9 years now. First Brambleton and then Leesburg in 2015. I’ve been commuting to Tysons everyday, m-f. Personally, we like it quite a lot, although traffic to get around is now getting a little ridiculous.

I couldn’t afford our home if it were 10 miles East. But I wouldn’t want to be 10 miles East either. We enjoy the greenery and really love Leesburg living. Weekends are relaxing to me. My commute is 45 minutes and I have 4 different ways I can take to tysons depending on traffic. One of which is really quite pretty and enjoyable in my sports car (which I could not have if I were 10 miles East). Nor would I have ½ the house.

We’re a family of 4. Kids are 11 and younger. Suburbs like loudoun fit us well. We’re well past the need to be in the center of action. You either like it or you don’t.

I also like how my home value has increased by nearly 22% over the past 5 years, and the previous one sold (2015) for 15% more than what I paid for it in 2011. The opportunities are coming to me, instead of me chasing the opportunities. As development continues and expansion encroaches out my way via tech mostly, my plan to sell this house in about 10 years at a price point that will allow me to buy the next one back in NC with mostly (if not entirely) with cash, looks very possible!

How do you like Leesburg for a couple in their 30's with a kid? Have a friend who's looking out that way and looks like it's one of the last places you can buy a decent sized SFH in this area that's newer than 1990 and under 650K.

Loudoun works for a lot of people who want to maximize cost per square foot and typically have families. I find its design with brickface homes/vinyl siding boring and unsightly, but people who live there don't really care. I would bet if most people who live there could get the same house in Great Falls, Vienna, McLean or Reston for the same per sq foot, they'd live closer in, but that's not going to happen.

My husband and I are early 30s with two small kids. I took some time off from work so we wanted to buy an affordable townhouse so I could spend time with the kids while they're little. We ended up buying in Ashburn because of the schools, the family oriented neighborhood, the family friendly activities (tons of indoor playgrounds, all the farms, libraries)... our backyard opens up to a big beautiful green open area and we can walk to the elementary school, the playground, a lake, and the grocery store. I love everything about loudoun other than the house prices, lol.

My husband works in Fairfax and I recently started working in Reston, so the commute is not a big deal

ditto.... we moved out here not too long ago. everyone is so nice. schools are awesome... and everyone is so fit.. omg. I often comment on how different the nextdoor postings are in my area compared to when i was in woodbridge. People are legit thanking others for little things and posting about how kids are actually willing to cut grass, shovel snow etc. In EPWC/thebridge it was more thefts and HOA complaints..

the area is definitely geared towards family......

and there are a ton of teslas.... ..... like seriously that might be the only issue. Need more superchargers.
