hello all! How bad would a commute from this location in pre-covid times be to Vienna Metro?

Harris Teeter off of 50 near Fair Oaks Mall
3905 Fair Ridge Dr, Fairfax, VA 22033

I am looking to move from Montgomery County MD to Fairfax and trying to balance schools, cost, commute

thanks!

I dont think there is a bus that serves it. you could get on Metro/off at Vienna grab a bus to Fair Oaks mall then uber or taxi to HT. Its not walkable its a bunch of highway flyways there.

If you could time, the train to bus to uber no stops or waiting in between, my guess is an hour 15 mins

There is a Harris Teeter at Dunn Loring (zip code 22180) that has a metro stop that would be very easy.

thanks very much for taking the time to reply! I intend to drive from a house somewhere around that Harris Teeter location and park at Vienna Metro for a commute into DC. I know that involves spending some time on 66. How long a drive would that have been in the pre pandemic days? I can't get a good sense from Google Maps etc since traffic patterns have been so off for the last year.

Looking at the Silver line map, if you move to the Fair Oaks area, you might be better off heading straight north and parking at Reston-Wiehle station and taking the Silver line in, as opposed to getting on 66 eastbound in the morning commute. the biggest problem with the 66 route is that it really packs up where 123 feeds in and there are often fender benders at that merge that slow it down tremendously. If not, you get lucky, maybe 10-15 minutes on 66 to Vienna exit (but getting out of your neighborhood onto 66 is completely unknown) and 30 minutes downtown on the train -- but then parking is a big problem at that station.

thanks very much for these insights! do you have an estimate of what a normal commute time drive would be from this location to the reston station you mentioned?

35 mins give or take
However there are no parking spots at Wiehle reston after 6:15 am. If you arrive at wiehle reston at 11am, there are parking spots opening at the metro station

That’s not true. There’s parking even at 8 am.

You are very lucky. for 8-4s its impossible and schedule work hours around it. Even at 11am you still need to head to the deep basement to find an empty spot
