We're looking at apartments in Herndon (off of Elden/Sterling Rd and Alabama -- north of the toll road).

Anyone have any information about this area? Berkdale Apartments is what we're looking at.

I appreciate any input. I've heard mixed reviews of places north of the toll road but haven't found any information regarding specific areas.

Generally, this area is not the best place to live, though I have no knowledge of this apartment complex.

Call the Herndon Police Department and ask about incidents in the area, whether they are vandalism or crimes against persons. Walk around the area after school and in the evening and see how it feels.

I would go the other way, try the other side of the tollroad. Go down centreville road some. I grew up in herndon and it has changed a ton. The area you are talking about is loaded with hispanic gangs. It used to be a great town.

Corporate Housing is moving us to the Residence Inn in Herndon.
How is this area? I asked to be moved to Falls Church, Vienna, McLean -- where there are Metro stops. However, they are moving us to this place because we have 3 dogs (2 goldens and a basset). I feel funny about moving to this area because it seems I need a bus then a train to get to Union Station.

Can you suggest areas that are close to the train because I have to go into DC to go NYC and (if possible) pet friendly? I am thinking of waiving this corporate housing benefit if this place is just too far or not too safe.

We currently live in New Jersey (north jersey metro section of NY/NJ) and preparing to move to NoVa. I have to travel between DC and NYC for work but mostly be reporting to the DC office. Help please.

It is going to be very hard to find corporate housing/hotels willing to accept the number and size of dogs you have. We were in temporary quarters a year ago and the biggest challenge was finding a place that would accept our two dogs since one of them was 50 lbs. We ended up renting a home from a private owner for 4 months (did a month-to-month lease agreement).

We found the private home through Craig's list. My husband was able to see it during a househunting trip before we signed the lease.

Can anyone tell me about the other side of Herndon - near Rt. 7? I think this is called the Dranesville area. It is near the Sterling Border. Are these good neighborhoods?
