Hi to All,

I'll be moving to NOVA in mid august, and would like to figure out the bus route and metro station around here. I'll be living in the falls church area and would like to get around to differnt places when I want to go out. What is the best way to understand the bus route and metro stations there?

Thank you

Check out wmata.com and click on "Maps and Stations" in the left hand corner for Metrobus and Metrorail info.

For other suburban options, check out the sticky "List of Commuting Options" at the top of this Northern Virginia forum.

Default Bus Route and Metro Around NOVA...(Pls Help)

As an addendum to Tone509's advice -

I find it easiest to open two browser windows simultaneously. Open one to wmata and the other to maps.google.com. Key in the neighborhood you are interested in. I find it much easier to understand the dynamics of the bus and metro stops that way. The best feature is the business search - I will find a bus stop on wmata and then use the google map to find grocery stores, restaurants, specific chain stores etc. that I can walk to from the bus or metro stop. Or I can look up a specific store and then match it against a specific bus route on wmata.

There are 3 stations to consider, East Falls Church station, West Falls Church Station and Dunn Loring depending on where you live. The area is very "cyclist friendly", so you may want to consider riding your bike to the metro.

The one thing that can be confusing that I've found as other tourists have asked is that on some of the stations platforms, they will run multiple lines(i.e. blue and orange line share the same platform). This mostly applies when you're riding the Metro train in DC.
