I pulled up this old thread because it was so genius. Even though a number of people disagreed there must be some truth to it otherwise the topic would have died an early death because the idea was so absurd.

probably. But I've lived in Denver, Atlanta, and now here and its all the same if you ask me. Maybe this makes me a mean person but honestly I don't want strangers trying to talk to me...just because I'm standing in a line at the grocery store doesn't mean i want to have a conversation.

You do not like to talk to people. Great, you will fit in well here!

I'm not saying that I'm going to get pissed or something if someone talks to me, but I won't be one to start a conversation. And I would like to point out that that doesn't make me rude or a jerk or a "cold person"

Wow, I'm sorry I missed this thread when it started! I think it's plenty friendly here, but then, I grew up here, so maybe I'm just rude and cold and I don't realize it.

I'm really curious about this Jeep wave, though. What is that? I never knew Jeep owners had a secret handshake of sorts.

I've lived in many big cities in this country and they are all very similar in terms of how people act towards one another. I have no idea what it is like to live in a small town in the south or midwest, but people in the bigger cities are generally just busy, not necessarily unfriendly. I think you can find friendly people anywhere and people who want to keep to themselves anywhere...a big part of it is how much of yourself you are putting out there.

Don't know what the Jeep conversation was about (didn't feel like going back through the thread) but their is a Jeep wave. Basically, if you're driving the "real" Jeep, the Wrangler-type Jeep and you pass another, you're supposed to do a little wave/salute thing. My friend, who was raised here and is in his 50s (and NOT unfriendly), is big on the Jeep wave.

It's similar to why motorcyclists and boaters wave to each other. Just a friendly acknowledgement of someone who shares the same interest.

When we first got a Prius, we'd get a "Prius wave" whenever we happened to drive by another one, even when we were driving on 66.

But nowadays you see Prius' everywhere you go, we're not "unique" anymore. So we're back to just getting waves just because we're driving around the neighborhood. My neighborhood is so hilarious, everyone waves here to everyone else, including every passing car--whether you know the drivers or not.

Default RE the Jeep wave...

Interesting! Thanks for clarifying, all.

When we lived in Texas, there was just a Wave. Everybody waved at everybody else from their cars. Not in the city, obviously, but out in the country? Everybody. It weirded me out a tiny little bit until my uncles explained what was going on. I kept thinking, "Why do all these people think they know me?"
