A 61 yr old woman was carjacked at the mall in broad daylight on Saturday - driven around and forced to use an ATM and then killed in a car accident as the human garbage that did this tried to get away. Too bad the carjackers were not killed.
I knew this mall was bad but now I will NEVER go there.

One thing I notice is that whenever I hear about Springfield Mall crime (which is still fairly rare), it's always in the garage. I've never heard of people being mugged or carjacked in the open lots... just an interesting observation.

I'll continue to go there though. Carjackings are rare, but they can happen anywhere. I recall hearing about an attempted one in Pentagon City, but it didn't stop anyone from going to that mall.

I read this in yesterdays paper and was very sad to see it. The last few times I went there I was a bit uncomfortable in the mall area (parking lot or garage) so I have stopped going. I am sorry for this woman and her loved ones.

Default This place has serious problems.

Thankfully that couple at the convenience store in Woodbridge thought something seemed really strange about the lady with those two guys. The news article stated that he came up to her like an old friend to give her a hug and whispered to her 'Are you OK?' At least someone was alert and cared enough to get involved. Unfortunately, it was not enough to help get her out of that frightening situation.

I used to hang out in Springfield Mall back in 1974-----------then, it had a really neat, almost a 'West Coast' vibe.

Things change.

It is very sad that the efforts of these two wonderful people were not enough to get her out of that terrible situation. I hope it brings some comfort to the family to know that someone out there tired to help.

Default Update-one suspect in carjacking dies

One of the guys who did the carjacking has died from his injuries he received in the crash.

Washington Post online has a video clip of the woman and one of her kidnappers in the convenience store.

My heart goes out to that woman's poor family.
