Thanks for your concern. My husband will be taking the VRE into DC. I don't know whether he has to catch the Metro somewhere or the VRE goes pass ChinaTown. Nevertheless, he said he prefers a newer home that is close to the VRE.

I'd like to hear also if anyone has experience with the VRE and its service or how safe it is to ride.

Thank you!

The commute will be at least 1.5 hours. I just helped a couple move from brand new luxury condos in Manassas Park to McLean because of the commute time, (yes I am a professional and am listed in the profiles). I personally live in Sterling and when I was working downtown, (legal district around 20th and L St, a little closer), it was an hour each way under best of conditions and sterling is much closer and I was leaving at 6:00 AM so I could catch 66 before HOV would kick-in. And there are good schools and homes in Fairfax and Loudoun that would fit your budget if not your age requirements. There are a lot of people starting to move in because of the time and cost of being farther out when working in the city.

I know a lot of people who take the VRE in from Manassas. It's not a quick commute. To get to DC, Manassas is probably *the* worst commute out there. It is worse than Woodbridge. You're really between a "rock and a hard place" there.
