Things probably won't change too much for the first couple of years. We'll be in a recession (which always sucks but life goes on).
Long term impact of his national security, social, economic policies is more of a question/problem in my view. But, hey, this is NOVA. We'll always have jobs here (though maybe not as many). Some things will never change

Thank you! My reply was focusing on how the original post attributed his vote to helping Obama win- I said I was not one of them and at 50 something % win in VA - I could not be alone. The flighty "get used to it" reply to mine was just inappropriate for this particular forum. I am sure other people not supporting socialism could have quite TRULY compeling arguments to bring up - yet not in this forum since it's not appropriate.

As NOVA increases in population I wonder if Virigina as a whole will continue to go blue for many elections to come. I'm still shocked that he won North Carolina. When I think of "The South" I tend to think of places like the Carolinas and such, not so much Virginia.

I didn't vote for him, don't think he'll be any better than Bush and think that VA in general is not going to benefit by him being president. We've seen it all before...Bush I, Clinton, GW and Now Barry get to DC, realize they can't do "crap" and then they attempt at making a difference but knowing they really can't. That being said...DC is a well oiled machine. Obama's naivete is going to be a hindrance.

With housing costs in this area - there are a lot of over 250K people- and depending on who in the DNC you listen to- that number keeps getting dropped lower and lower (125K)- it's going to hurt us no doubt! this area has a high cost of living-I'm in a 2 income household to just be middle class- but we hit Obama's definition of taking from the wealthy to redistribute- first of all- no one here is wealthy per say at 125-200k- and second- why should he determine who gets what from whom? I have a real issue with the socialism aspect. So- it's going to hurt us in the NOva except for people who get handouts will get even more.

What you're saying is right, however without any middle class we will be in deep do-do. It would be cheaper to give them handouts then having them on the streets committing crimes.

This may not be true this time around. Considering the strong control they have in Congress, people like Pelosi, Reid and Frank are totally unblocked by the President. They will pretty much be able to do whatever they want, big government will get bigger, more people will expect that the gov't will do things for them...and that worries me.

I think it's possible that Virginia will be "blue" for a while - Democratic Governor and now both U.S. Senators and more Representatives are Democrats. It all comes down to performance - if Virginians are happy with the Obama Presidency, we could stay blue ... there would be no need to go back to red.
And as much as I really, really like the way NOVA voted this time around, it wasn't just NOVA that delivered Virginia to Obama. There was a LOT of blue throughout the Commonwealth.
