We were offered an out the door quote of $32,258 (active duty military for taxes info) for a 2009 Odyssey EX-L with dvd. Is that a good price here?

what's the financing like? 32k for a minivan is overkill don't you think? Have you tried Toyota?

I know we paid a bit more than that on a 2006 Touring model in California back in 2005.

I don't really think it's "overkill" for a minivan for our family. We do a lot of road trips (the van has been across the country 3 times now, down to Florida, up to Massachusetts, and countless other shorter trips to Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.) and when you're trying to keep young kids comfortable in a car for 8+ hours a day, the little extras/upgrades can make a difference.

According to Edmunds.com, that is a very good price. But still, do you really want to spend $32k on a vehicle in this economy?

Americans, in general, should learn from this current economy that we should drive our cars a few extra years, pay off debts, and save more money. Of course, everybody's individual situation is different. Just my two cents.

No, don't save, keep spending. Not spending hurts, not helps.

I think everyone needs to do what works for their own family. Sometimes car repairs can cost more in a year than a new car payment, and when you have little ones to consider and long road trips, it is a smart move.

We bought a new Honda Ex this summer, didn't get the leather or the touring model and out the door was around $26K including DVD installed. I decided to forgo the leather and other extras as to me it wasn't worth the extra money. So, so pleased with our purchase. It has made my life with two very young kids more manageable.

Meant to say...Honda Odessey. Also got roof racks and a few other extras. 3% financing. We shopped around all the local dealers via internet specials on edmunds.com and got the best deal we could find.

That's a very smart move on your part. The DVD and GPS are a great thing to have, but since GPS's are $99 at bestbuy, and portable DVD players are cheaper, it's not worth paying the extra $10k to the dealer. R

What I dont like is the fuel economy of minivans. It would make more sense to buy a hatchback or a mazda/toyota category.
