I see a position offered in Chantilly that I would be interested in. I googled it and was told to expect a commute of 35 minutes and more in traffic. Since I am new here, please advise how accurate the above is. I do not know where in Chantilly...I have never been to Chantilly. Any advise is appreciated.

Chantilly is northwest of Alexandria, near Dulles Airport.

I commute from Old Town to Fairfax, which is a few miles "closer in" than Chantilly. Even though it's (sort of) a reverse commute, Beltway traffic between Braddock Rd. and Rte. 50 is pretty bad, and the traffic lights on Rte. 236 are timed in favor of the non-reverse commuters (not that it helps them much). Barring anything unusual, takes me about 30-35 minutes to get to Fairfax in the morning, if I were continuing to Chantilly, I'd probably add another 10 minutes or so. For comparison, Old Town to Fair Oaks Mall (which is between Fairfax and Chantilly) takes 30 minutes, non rush hour.

The good news is that the newly opened lanes on the Wilson Bridge have improved the trip back to Old Town immensely. What used to approach an hour on Fridays is now reliably 30 minutes.

And, of course, if the position offers any flexibility, the earlier you can come and go, the better.
